Drunk History

If, like me, you love the idea of Aubrey Plaza playing CLEOPATRA and Will Ferrell finally getting to essay his FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER, then look no further than the U.S. series of DRUNK HISTORY. Six seasons to date. Each ep is twenty-one minutes long, with one or sometimes two drunken historian stories.

Aubrey is excellent as Cleo in BAD BLOOD, plotting against her eleven year old sister. In ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DRUNK?, Ferrell's stone-white creature looks for answers from his creator, Victor, played by Seth Rogen; the whole thing narrated by Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Shelley ventriloquising the drunk historian, who recounts the fateful night of thunderstorms and monsters at Lake Geneva to campfire listeners.

And if you can’t be bothered with the new entire HAMILTON stage musical on Disney+, then try the Drunk History version, which has a sozzled Lin-Manuel Miranda narrating the story of presidential rivals Aaron Burr (Aubrey Plaza, again) and Alexander Hamilton (Alia Shawkat from the excellent SEARCH PARTY). It’s quite brilliant and very funny. And concise.

I watched episodes on YouTube, but you can also find them on Amazon Prime.
