Loki - Disney +
After the disappointment of THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER, which had the habit of running away from all the things that were good about itself in favour of following a small-minded, dull story about generation terrorists, LOKI landed yesterday on Disney+ and hit all the right notes!
This is more like it. LOKI is fun and gloriously designed, placing the God of Mischief as a captive, held by the TIME VARIANCE AUTHORITY.
The TVA were created by Walt Simonson in the 80s, a tongue-in-cheek bureaucratic organisation set up to deal with Marvel's burgeoning multiverses and timelines.
Marvel has opted for a 70s design aesthetic for the TVA HQ, which adds nicely to the fun and stickiness. Director Kate Herron places the humour at the forefront of the story-telling, utilising all the strengths of Tom Hiddleston's terrific portrayal of the troublesome half-brother of Thor.
One can see the influence of LEGION and WANDAVISION on the series... I hope it continues to be as good as this first ep.
And, joy of joys, Owen Wilson is playing time-bureaucrat and ace-detective, Mobius M Mobius.
Yes!
