Emily In Paris (2020)
REVIEW BY: ROBERT CHANDLER
Darren Starr’s new series, EMILY IN PARIS, is lightweight and breezy, chock-full of clichés and with zero believability, yet entertaining and good to look at. Lily Collins is a young out-of-her-depth assistant, who has to go to Paris in lieu of her boss, played by Kate Walsh, to help an esteemed French marketing company with its social media campaigns.
Collins is wide-eyed and lovely but, frankly, I’d rather Kate Walsh had been sent.
But Lily is young, lithe and beautiful, and so that’s where we’re going. And she dresses impeccably - throw any outfit at her and it will land just right.
Episode one. All was going well, if predictably. The sweet girl from the Midwest versus the rude French in a romantic Parisian setting, fluffy gags and everybody looks great and the city is historic and who wouldn’t fall in love here... but then in the final scene... Emely GETS OUT HER VIBRATOR for PHONE SEX with her American boyfriend.
Gadzooks. It felt so inconsistent with what had gone before...
Still, it’s enjoyable and fun. And episodes are less than half an hour.
